At Home with Dusty
Friday, December 17, 2010
Dusty and his friend, Mark Peterson, are truly breaking the language barrier in the animal world, far exceeding widely held beliefs on animal intelligence and capacity for language and communication. Dusty’s grasp for the human language and use of tools is proof of that. The Great Apes have always been regarded as one of the only species of animal to use tools on a regular basis. This horse, has now blown that out of the water. Through his special style of training and communication, Peterson is teaching us all how to get the most out of any relationship while bringing joy and good will to all who meet his fun loving horse Dusty.

Dusty’s Real Life Adventures
Goodwill Ambassador from the Wilderness
Dusty is a very special Kentucky Mountain Horse. He and his sister Daisy May and their best friend Blazer, travel all over the country tracking wildlife in the remote wilderness for TV and web based projects. When not on assignment in the wilderness, Dusty enjoys meeting new friends in various cities across the country. He is regularly involved in doing goodwill for charities such as the Ronald McDonald House and friendly ‘Meet & Greets’ in a variety of public places. Dusty can be found raising crowds of young and old alike who gather for his kisses and autographs at fairs, expos, restaurants, shopping centers and more. Dusty’s fans follow his travels and adventures on Facebook. Dusty’s Facebook Fan Page puts his followers into the wild along with Dusty and his friends. His fans enjoy being invited to join in all his travel destinations which are shared with daily posts of photos, comments or video clips.

Wildlife behaviorist, Mark Peterson, has spent more than 20 years tracking and studying wildlife in the wilderness of North America. He has led and guided expeditions of film crews, and wildlife researchers into remote areas on horseback for study and filming.
A highly motivated and gentle trainer, Peterson also teaches clinics in horsemanship. He has a unique understanding of animal behaviors, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of animal body language, giving him insight to create a kind of language that has transformed even high spirited horses into a calmer, happier animal.
With the help of his horse, Dusty, Peterson’s "Breaking the Language Barrier” clinic employs ground breaking techniques that create a desire in the horse to truly listen for its next verbal cue, keeping the horse more in tune with the rider.
The program provides better communication between human and horse. This, in itself, helps to develop a special bond between horse and rider that is stronger than anything imagined before.
Tapping into a whole new realm of communication, Peterson’s program focuses on two vital areas, "The Complete Trail Riding Clinic" and a softer, gentler communication for horse and rider." Breaking the Language Barrier."
To see the results of this amazing new training concept, watch the videos at www.markanddusty.com
Both of these exiting new DVD's will be released at the IEF during the World Equestrian Games where Mark and Dusty will be speaking and Performing twice a day for the entire 16 days of this event.

Getting Ready for Upcoming Film Shoot
Mark and Dusty have been enjoying a few days of rest following the Minnesota Horse Expo held in St. Paul. The expo was held at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds April 23 - 25 with over 300 horses on the grounds.
This spring Mark and Dusty continue to be busy in preparation for the filming of two DVDs which will be sold at the International Equestrian Festival at the World Equestrian Games this fall. The Games will be held in Lexington, KY. The two DVDs will be entitled "Breaking the Language Barrier" and "Complete Trail Riding". The first DVD consists of Mark's unique training method which has baffled many equine clinicians and animal behaviorists for years. Mark talks to Dusty, and Dusty seems to understand. If you need to see it to believe it, just drop us a line and we'll let you know where Mark and Dusty will be appearing next nearest you!
Six riders will be joining Mark and Dusty in the beautiful forests of Northern Minnesota later this month for the filming of "Complete Trail Riding". The riders will be traveling from Arkansas and Chicago, trailering their own horses in. The group are looking forward to the scenic ride which will span a period of 5 days. During the excursion, riders will partake of Mark's life experience as an outdoorsman, tracker and wildlife behaviorist. Three of the riders have participated in previous instruction with Mark, while the others will be experiencing this great opportunity for the first time.
Not only will this be an opportunity for a great ride and a learning experience for the group, participants will also be filmed for the DVD, a television show, and participate in photography sessions for an upcoming book that will also be made available at the International Equestrian Festival this fall.
It's a busy spring, but we are all looking forward to meeting new friends, riding in new places, and the many great things to come in 2010!
